Dermal Piercing or Dermal Anchors are a relatively new and exciting development in the body piercing arena. They are a semi permanent implant that allows the wearer to choose what type of jewellery they want to wear at anytime, and also allows you to wear nothing at all. When not being worn only a very small threaded post is left visible, this is however flush with the skin and does not cause any discomfort at all.
As shown in the illustration below a tiny puncture of the skin is made using either a needle or a dermal punch, the jewellery of which there are two types is then placed under the skin. An anaesthetic cream is applied to the area prior to the piercing being done and as a result very little discomfort if felt by the client.
The first type of jewellery is an implant with a small plate on the back that once inserted holds the post in place to which the jewelled ball is then screwed.
The second type of jewellery we use is called a Dermal Anchor, this is placed under the skin using the Dermal Punch. This also allows for different styles of jewellery to screwed on by the wearer.
Dermal anchors allow the wearer to use very small jewellery and also for them to be placed virtually anywhere on the body, hip area, behind the ears and back of the neck are some of the more common placements.
Once and Dermal Anchor or Dermal Diver has been inserted it can only be removed by a trained Piercer and no attempt should be made by any other individual to try and take it out, always come go back to the studio that fitted it for removal.
